Our Activities

EarthCare members meet monthly to share ideas, plan activities, and encourage one another in Christ-centered environmental stewardship. The meetings are usually on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church on South Germantown Road in Chattanooga (click here for map). All interested persons are invited to attend.

Since 1997, EarthCare has sponsored a spring retreat and a fall retreat for pastors and interested lay people. Plans for this year's events will be announced in the EarthCare newsletter and posted on our website main page as the event draws near. These events are usually held at the Pot Point Field Station (the Pot House) of the Tennessee River Gorge Trust (click here for map).

The EarthCare mission statement calls for us to be actively involved in our creation care efforts.  To this end, we participate in the Tennessee Adopt-A-Highway program.  Four times per year we clean up a stretch of Highway 58. All are welcome to join us! Contact Patrick Spiesser to sign up (you have to watch a 15 minute video first).

Some of our members also participate regularly in environmental cleanup efforts such as the Tennessee River Rescue and the Conasauga River Cleanup, which is sponsored by Keep Dalton-Whitfield Beautiful.

Future Activities

A number of other exciting activities are being discussed at our monthly meetings. Some of the activities currently under discussion are:

  • Participating in nature walks.  This will combine the exercise aspects of hiking with the spiritual exercise of communing with Christ in His creation.
  • Sponsoring a "Simple Living" discussion group
  • Environmental Justice activities with the Bethlehem Center of Chattanooga.
